School Pupils (Junior Hour 6pm - 7pm, Club Night 7:15pm - varies)
School pupils in Year 0 - Year 13 who already know how chess pieces move and capture are welcomed to extend/reinforce their chess skills and to meet new friends who also love to play chess.
Junior Hour is mainly for Year 0 - Year 8, organised by our club volunteers with parents providing supervision and assistance. Sessions are 1 hour long, starting with 15 minutes of interactive chess lecture followed by games with other students and other chess activities. Students are paired by our Club’s system, their results and ranking is recorded in the Club’s system.
Juniors are placed into five or six categories according to their playing ability and coached in rotation. Each week, different groups take turns having a full session with the Club's coach, FM Leonard McLaren.
