2026 NZCF East Auckland Regional Interschools Chess Championship Results

Intermediate Section
We would like to thank all the attending teachers, parents & students from 5 schools in East Auckland
for another suc-chess-ful day!
So wonderful to see 17 teams of Intermediate school students made up of former Primary school participants, Club players, coached players and those beginning their chess journey, enjoying their EOTC day together. We were pleased to see plenty of good sportsmanship in practice and the support that you give to each other.
Special Mentions:
Somerville Intermediate School students, parents and teachers Hall set up and pack down
Somerville Intermediate School students Welcoming students and setting up chess pieces
Lukas van Batenberg (Papatoetoe Chess Club member, Bucklands Beach Intermediate student) for taking the initiative to check all clocks in the tournament area and reset them meticulously (including which side of the clock buttons needs to be down/up). We think he is an arbiter or tournament organiser in the making. Thank you Lukas, we hope you will be running an interschool tournament one day.

Medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will be engraved with students' names. Medals will be sent to engravers after the completion of all the East Auckland Sections and should be with the schools at the beginning of Term 3.
